Derwent Community Library

LibraryDerwent Community Library is a great local resource that offers books, information and much more.

As well as reference and non-fiction books to suit all tastes and interests (including audio books and large print books), there is a selection of newspapers and magazines.

There’s a dedicated children’s area within the library, with books suitable for children from birth to teenage. Derwent Community Library also offers Rhyme Time for babies and children under 3 years of age from 10.30am to 11am every Thursday plus a Cradle Club for parents and babies every Wednesday (please ask the library staff for details as there is often a waiting list). During the summer school holidays, the Library runs a Summer Reading Challenge for children aged 4 to 12. For adults, Derwent Community Library runs Craft and Chat sessions every Thursday from 5pm to 6.30pm – there’s no charge and no need to book.

Free internet access is available at the library for you to surf the internet or check out the elibrary that includes ebooks and audiobooks, online language courses and online journals and databases covering a range of subjects such as business, consumer and legal information. If you want to print from the computer there’s a small charge per page.

Library desk and tableThe free enquiry and information service can direct you to the reference books, leaflets, Council information and websites and if the library doesn’t have the book you want, you can request any book in the catalogues of Derby City and Derbyshire County Libraries free of charge - either ask the Library’s staff or go online.

If you want to get more involved in the library, you could join the Library User Group, which welcomes new members – please ask the library staff for details if you are interested.
